    Moving to South Carolina

Jen and I are officially moving to South Carolina next month.

We decided to do this based on a couple different things. First off, both of our families are all on the other side of the country and we’re the only two out here in San Diego. We’ve been making a big loop to visit both families a couple times a year. It’s getting more and more difficult/costly to see everyone regularly. Even more, we have young nieces and nephews that we want to be able to see more often as they grow up over the years.

Secondly, the cost of living/housing out here in CA. Ridiculous. You don’t really notice it as much when you’re single and have roommates to share the responsibility of renting an apartment with. It’s pretty manageable then. But when you get married and all of the money is coming from one pool it puts things into a different perspective. When we started to compare what you can get for the same cost elsewhere, it just didn’t make sense to keep paying the high rent costs or even consider buying a house in Southern California.

This decision brings about very bittersweet feelings for me. I know I will really miss living here quite a bit. I’ve always loved San Diego and have lived out here for a little under 10 years now. I will miss surfing, living so close to the Pacific Ocean, and the perfect weather. And that’s just a few things from a very long list. I’ve made a lot of great friends, had a lot of fun adventures, and have a lot of really good memories of my time spent out here. I’ll certainly be back out to visit every chance I get.

On the other hand, I really like South Carolina and I’m excited to explore a new part of the country. Greenville, where we’ll be moving to initially, is a really cool place. I’ve been there a handful of times now and it seems that every time we go back, there’s something new popping up downtown. There are lots of cool shops, restaurants, breweries, etc. The city itself is in a great geographical location; only a couple hours from both Atlanta and Charlotte, one hour from Asheville, and a little over three hours from Charleston. Not to mention that it’ll be easily drivable to head up to MI and see my family.

All-in-all, I’m excited for this new adventure and chapter in our lives!
